Star Wars: Unlimited packs here pull from real published sets through the apitcg feed.
What Star Wars: Unlimited actually is
Each player has a Leader (a character who starts on the side of the board and can deploy into the fight later) and a Base (a location with hit points). Your job is to reduce their Base to zero.
The clever part is the resource system. On your turn you may take any card in your hand and put it face down as a resource. That means every card is either a play or a payment, and every hand presents the same interesting question: what am I willing to bury to afford the thing I want?
- Two arenas: Ground and Space. Units deploy to one, and they can only fight what is in the same arena.
- Players alternate single actions rather than taking long turns, so nobody sits watching.
- Aspects (Vigilance, Command, Aggression, Cunning, plus Heroism and Villainy) colour your deck and taxing off-aspect cards keeps identities honest.
- The initiative token decides who acts first next round and is worth fighting over.
Reading a card
- Leader: double sided. One side sits at the edge of play with an ability, the other is a Unit you can deploy later in the game.
- Base: your life total, printed as HP, plus an ability. It never attacks.
- Unit: Ground or Space, with power and HP, played into an arena.
- Event: a one-shot effect. Some can be played during your opponent's action window.
- Upgrade: attaches to a Unit and improves it.
- Aspect icons: cards that do not match your Leader and Base aspects cost extra to play. That surcharge is the deckbuilding constraint.
You CAN play off-aspect cards, they just cost more. Splashing one powerful off-aspect card is a real strategy rather than a mistake.
How a round works
- 1
Action phase, alternating
Players take one action each, back and forth: play a card, attack with a unit, use an ability, take the initiative, or pass. This continues until both players pass.
- 2
Playing a card
Exhaust resources equal to the cost. Resources come from cards you buried on previous turns.
- 3
Resourcing
Once per round you may put a card from your hand face down as a resource. Doing it is almost always right early and increasingly painful late.
- 4
Attacking
Exhaust a unit to attack. It can hit an enemy unit in the SAME arena, or the enemy Base if nothing forces it to do otherwise. Damage is simultaneous, so attacking into a bigger unit hurts.
- 5
Regroup phase
Ready everything, draw back up to your hand size, and the player who claimed initiative goes first next round.
Units with Sentinel force attacks in their arena to go through them. And claiming initiative costs you an action now to guarantee acting first next round: that double turn across the round break decides an enormous number of games.
Building a deck
- 50 cards minimum, up to three copies of a card by name, plus one Leader and one Base.
- Your Leader and Base together define your aspects and therefore what is cheap for you.
- Cover both arenas or accept a hole. A deck with no space units cannot contest space at all.
- Curve matters because resources grow one per round. Have plays at 1, 2 and 3 cost, not just bombs.
The official two-player starter set contains two complete decks and teaches the game as you play it. It is the cheapest correct entry point.
Formats and sets
- Premier is the main constructed format.
- Twin Suns is a two-leader variant with a larger deck, for a longer game.
- Draft and Sealed use packs on the day and are extremely beginner friendly.
- Sets arrive a few times a year, each anchored on an era of the films or shows.
Every era at once
The name is the design brief: Unlimited means the game is not tied to one era. Cards from the prequels, the original trilogy, the sequels, Clone Wars, Rebels, Andor and The Mandalorian all share the same board, and nobody pretends this is canon.
- Sets take an era as a theme (a set built around Hoth plays differently from one built around the Clone Wars) without restricting you to it.
- Heroism and Villainy are aspects, so a deck can be built around alignment as much as around strategy.
- The art direction leans on painted, cinematic illustration rather than film stills, and the showcase treatments are the chase cards.
- Leaders are the characters you would expect, and each plays like the character. Vader is expensive and terrifying, exactly as he should be.
