Hangman

A viewer spends channel points and goes on the gallows: their profile picture is the head, every wrong guess from chat draws another body part, and failing the word earns a real 60 second chat timeout. Win, and the whole stream watched them sweat for nothing.

How a round goes

One viewer, one word, one noose. The rest of chat gets to watch.

🎟️

Redeem to play

Any channel point reward with hangman in the title starts a game, or the !hangman command (you pick who may use it).

🪢

Their face on the line

The player's Twitch avatar hangs as the head. Torso, arms and legs follow with every miss, drawn live on the gallows.

⌨️

Guesses come from chat

Only the player can guess: single letters in chat, or !solve word to go for the win. Wrong solves cost a life too.

💀

Lose = timeout

Out of lives or out of time and the figure completes, the word reveals, and the player eats a 60 second timeout (length is yours to tune).

🎉

Win = glory

Confetti, a green-lit escape, and a chat shoutout with how many lives they had left. The flex writes itself.

Your words

8 built-in categories (~280 words) from Video Games to Stream Life, or feed it your own list, inside jokes hit hardest.

Setup in three steps

No installs beyond Streamer.bot. The overlay connects straight from the browser source.

Turn on the Streamer.bot WebSocket server

In Streamer.bot: Servers/Clients > WebSocket Server > Start Server. The default 127.0.0.1:8080 is exactly what the gallows expects.

Import the two Hangman actions

Download the import string, then in Streamer.bot press Import and paste it. You get Hangman · Timeout and Hangman · Announce, no triggers needed, the overlay invokes them. Then create a channel point reward with hangman in the title (a cooldown equal to the game length keeps redeems tidy).

Add one browser source

In OBS: Add > Browser, size around 900 x 380, URL https://widget.aquilo.gg/overlays/hangman/. Or skip the defaults and build your URL in the customizer.

Questions

Does it work without the Streamer.bot import?
The game itself runs fine, starts, guesses, win and lose screens. The import only powers the chat timeout and the chat announcements; without it, losses just stop hurting. The overlay shows a small reminder if the actions are missing.
Can mods or the broadcaster be timed out?
No, Twitch does not allow it. If a mod loses, the Hangman · Timeout action posts a chat note that the gallows have no power over them. Everyone else serves their sentence.
What exactly counts as a guess?
Only messages from the player who started the game. A bare single letter ("e") guesses that letter; !solve some word attempts the answer; a bare word with the same letter count as the answer also counts as a solve attempt. Normal chatter ("no way lol") is ignored and costs nothing.
What if someone redeems while a game is running?
The new request is ignored with an on-screen note, and a configurable cooldown (30s by default) runs between games. Set the channel point reward's own cooldown to roughly the game length and the queue stays clean; refunds for clashes stay in your hands in the Twitch rewards queue.
Twitch only?
For now, yes, the timeout penalty is a Twitch concept and guesses are matched to the Twitch user who started the game. Multi-platform play is on the list.
Can I change the words, lives, or timer?
All of it: 8 built-in categories you can toggle, a custom word list, 3 to 6 lives, a 30 second to 5 minute clock, the timeout length (or off entirely), announcements, sounds and colors, all in the customizer, which writes everything into one URL.
